  31. Since first catching the world's attention as
  32. winner of the Yamaha award at The Montreal
  33. International Jazz Festival in 1983, jazz guitarist
  34. and composer Sylvain Provost has become a prominent
  35. and renowned force on the Canadian and
  36. International Jazz scene.
  37. For over 25 years, Sylvain has participated in
  38. countless events, as soloist, or lead of his own
  39. Trio, as concert performer and studio recording
  40. artist, and as sideman, arranger, and co-producer.
  41. Along with his long-time bass partner, Norman
  42. Lachapelle, he has produced a host of recordings,
  43. winning nominations and awards, including the Opus
  44. Awards and a Felix award for best jazz album at
  45. ADISQ in 2001.
  46. His fluid and sparkling style, his exceptional
  47. talent for improvisation, and his vibrant melodic
  48. interpretations have won him the respect of his
  49. peers and the accolades of jazz lovers everywhere.
  50. Past and present collaborators include Oliver
  51. Jones, Karen Young, Gerry Boulet, Paul Brochu,
  52. Michel Donato, Sylvain Lelievre, Normand
  53. Guilbeault, Franτois Marcaurelle, Terez Montcalm,
  54. Yannick Rieu, Jean Vanasse, Coco Zhao and
  55. Jean-Pierre Zanella.
  56. Sylvain also showcased his versatility and
  57. creativity when he played with Edouard Lock's Dance
  58. company La La La Human Steps on its world tour from
  59. 1990 to 1994, and with Jean Vanasse and Chinese
  60. jazz singer Coco Zhao on an Asian tour in 2006.
  61. On his new album Desirs Demodes (EFFENDI
  62. Records-release date June 2009), Sylvain introduces
  63. us to his new Trio, while adding to his repertoire
  64. the more melodic composition he is famous for,
  65. featuring the sensuality and contrasts of differing
  66. guitar voices.
  67. His long time friends and colleagues, musicians Guy
  68. Boisvert on doublebass and Alain Boyer on drums,
  69. join him on this new journey.
