  26. Release Notes:
  27.
  28. On September 9, 2009, after a nearly 22-year wait, digitally remastered
  29. versions of all of the Beatles studio albums will be released, a press
  30. release has confirmed. Each album will feature the track listings and
  31. artwork as it was originally released in the U.K. and come with
  32. expanded booklets including original and newly written liner notes and
  33. rare photos. For a limited time, each of the Fab FourÆs 12 proper
  34. albums will be ôembeddedö with a brief documentary about its making.
  35. The rereleases will include the BeatlesÆ 12 studio albums and Magical
  36. Mystery Tour as well as Past Masters Vol. I and II, which will be
  37. packaged as one collection. All 14 discs will be available with DVDs of
  38. the documentaries in a stereo box set, and a set titled The Beatles in
  39. Mono featuring 10 discs will also be released.
  40.
  41. (Look back at the BeatlesÆ studio albums and Rolling StoneÆs stories on
  42. the LPs.)
  43.
  44. A crew of engineers at LondonÆs Abbey Road Studios have spent four
  45. years working on the remasters using new technology and vintage
  46. equipment, the press release says, in an effort to preserve ôthe
  47. authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordingsö and
  48. ensure ôthe highest fidelity the catalog has seen since its original
  49. release.ö
  50. 9/9/09 promises to be a huge day in Beatles lore, as itÆs the same day
  51. The Beatles: Rock Band will hit stores. This weekend brought a bit of
  52. Beatles news, too, as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited onstage
  53. at a New York benefit for David LynchÆs Transcendental Meditation
  54. foundation (see photos here). Preorders for the remasters are already
  55. popping up on Amazon.co.uk. Demand for Beatles remasters has steadily
  56. increased since 1987, when Capitol/EMI first released the BeatlesÆ
  57. discography on CD with what many audiophile fans deemed substandard
  58. sound quality compared to the original vinyl.
  59.
  60. While it seems like other artists remaster their entire catalog every
  61. several years, Capitol/EMI have barely touched the BeatlesÆ discography
  62. since 1987, with the exception of 2004Æs The Capitol Albums, Vol. 1 box
  63. set, which compiled and remastered the bandÆs first four American
  64. releases in stereo and mono formats. The soundtrack for the BeatlesÆ
  65. Love show also gave listeners a brief tease of how fantastic the bandÆs
  66. songs would sound if properly remastered.
  67.
  68. The Beatles in Mono will include the 10 albums originally mixed for
  69. mono release, as well as two additional discs the press release says
  70. features similar songs to those on the Past Masters compilations. The
  71. mono versions of Help! and Rubber Soul will boast bonuses: the albumsÆ
  72. original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on
  73. CD, per the press release. The mono collection, like the stereo one,
  74. will include all original inserts and label designs, and the CDs are
  75. designed as tiny vinyl replicas.
  76.
  77. The press release didnÆt include news regarding a possible deal with
  78. iTunes or another digital-music vendor to distribute the catalog
  79. digitally: ôDiscussions regarding the digital distribution of the
  80. catalog will continue. There is no further information available at
  81. this time,ö the press release reads. Both Apple Corps. and Paul
  82. McCartney have expressed reluctance to release the BeatlesÆ music
  83. digitally until all the albums had been remastered. The solo work of
  84. each of the four Beatles is available on iTunes.
