  24. This beloved sequel to the groundbreaking DOOM (1993) gave players the
  25. brutal Super Shotgun to bear against deadlier demons, and the infamous
  26. boss, the Icon of Sin.
  27. The re-release of DOOM II includes:
  28. - The Master Levels, 20 additional levels made by the community and
  29. supervised by the developers
  30. - Local 4 player multiplayer
  31. - Local 4 player co-op
  32. To save Earth, you must descend into the depths of hell, survive demon

  40. Just like our release of Quake, we made sure to include ALL mods/addons/DLC
  41. (call them whatever you want) currently available. No online connection is
  42. needed.

  44. 1.08 update so the game will see them as pre-installed. You can find them

  63. - Introducing "Add-ons^"! Add-ons bring free downloadable content to the
  64. re-releases of DOOM and DOOM II, consisting of official map packs as well
  65. as some of the best community episodes and megawads released for the
  66. original DOOM titles. On both DOOM and DOOM II you'll find TNT: Evilution
  67. and The Plutonia Experiment, the two map packs that constituted the retail
  68. Final DOOM release. Together those alone represent over 60 levels of
  69. gameplay^! On DOOM II you'll also find No Rest for the Living, a map pack
  70. created by our friends at Nerve Software.
  71. - 60 FPS Support: For the first time, DOOM and DOOM II now run at 60 FPS on
  72. all platforms, instead of 35 FPS as in the original releases.
  73. - Added Aspect Ratio Option: Stretches the display vertically to match the
  74. original 4:3 aspect ratio that the game was intended to be played in.
  75. - Added Quick Save and Load: Pause the game, and press R1 to immediately
  76. save where you are, and unpause the game. Load your quick save by pausing
  77. the game and then pressing L1.
  78. - Added Level Select: Pick an episode, map, and difficulty of your
  79. choosing, and immediately play on it without having to clear the previous
  80. levels first.
  81. - Added Weapon Carousel: You no longer need to cycle through every weapon
  82. to get to the one you want. Press Previous or Next Weapon to highlight the
  83. weapon you want, and it will swap immediately to the selected gun.
  84. - Added Quick Weapon Select: The Directional Buttons can now be used to
  85. quickly swap between weapons.
  86. Up Button: Shotgun and Super Shotgun
  87. Right Button: Chaingun
  88. Down Button: Rocket Launcher
  89. Left Button: Plasma Gun
  90. - Added Overall Brightness and Level Brightness: Turn up Overall Brightness
  91. to make the colors brighter, but if that isn't enough, you can also raise
  92. Level Brightness to change the brightness of the lights in the world.
  93. - Added Random SFX Pitch Toggle: Turn off randomized sound pitches during
  94. playback, which was a feature present in early versions of the original
  95. DOOM release.
  96. - New split screen HUD: A minimal HUD will be used when playing split
  97. screen multiplayer. The bottom status bar is removed, allowing more room
  98. for the game to be displayed in.
  99. Changes
  100. - Changed Health Graphics: The pill has been changed into a green plus,
  101. making the graphics closer to their original appearance.
  102. - Changed Wolfenstein Secret Level: Enemies in the Wolfenstein level have
  103. been restored to the original DOS release. The original textures and enemy
  104. audio have been re-added to the level, but with [censored] references
  105. removed.
  106. Performance Optimizations
  107. - Several optimizations to DOOM's software renderer have been made in order
  108. to better support 60 FPS.
  109. - Improved behavior when starting the game out of rest mode. There still
  110. may be cases that cause the game to lock up after awakening.
  111. - Sped up various UI animations to make navigating through menus quicker.
  112. Fixes
  113. - Fixed an issue from the original DOS release where map objects would not
  114. correctly track the player after loading a saved game. This also fixes an
  115. occasional crash with loading a save game with an active BFG projectile.
  116. - Fixed an issue where the game would skip ahead several tics after
  117. unpausing.
  118. - Fixed an issue where attract mode demos would desync, causing demo
  119. playback to deviate from the original DOS release.

  122. - The Audio has been overhauled, and positional audio should now work in
  123. all cases.
  124. - Sound distance falloff is now accurately using the same volume ranges
  125. from the original DOS release.
  126. - Objects that make consecutive sounds (such as the Chaingunner's gun
  127. firing) will now correctly interrupt each other.
  128. Add-on Specific Updates
  129. - Chainsaw firing in Add-ons has been fixed to its original optimal buzz.
  130. - Sounds at 22khz (such as the Double Barrel Shotgun) now play correctly in
  131. Add-ons.
  132. - In the Add-on "No Rest for the Living", Hell levels now use the correct
  133. hell sky texture.
  134. - Add-ons that are made up of multiple episodes can now be selected
  135. correctly.
  136. Fixes
  137. - Fixed stalls that may occur when quick loading the game several times in
  138. a row when Add-ons are active.
  139. Changes
  140. - Automap colors have been changed. It will now clearly mark doors, and
  141. keyed doors using red, yellow, blue, or white lines, making it quicker to
  142. find parts of the map that are unexplored.
  143. - Automap is drawn with pixel doubling to increase visibility and fix
  144. issues with lines disappearing.
  145. - Kills, items, and secrets are now shown on the automap during gameplay.

  147. - Quick Load now loads quicker by skipping the screen wipe animation when
  148. loading a game.
